Description
Born in Coimbra, Jay Fernandez's first needle on the record began at the age of 6 by listening to his brother's vinyl's, mainly Barclay James Harvest, Pink Floyd, U2, Iron Maiden and some electronic gems like Radio-Activity by Kraftwerk. In the early 90's and at the age of 16, he moved to Viseu to study, where he began a new musical journey, first as a songwriter and acoustic guitar player in a band named OB that was renamed to Filhos da Madrugada shortly after that. Then, in 1995 he connected even more with the house music scene, having the chance to work both as a light-jockey and a DJ with DJ Nuno Amaral and DJ Zé Galo at The Day After nightclub. At the same time, he started to be more eclectic in his daily life music choices, by including Grunge, Hip-Hop, Metal and Acid House, recurring to Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy, Wu-Tang-Clan, Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest just to name a few. In the late 90's he moved to Guarda to continue his studies, during which he throwed more music into his bag, by absorbing and embracing the whole Manchester movement, listening to The Stone Roses, James, Happy Mondays, Primal Scream, New Order and everything in between. Starting in 1998 and until 2002, he worked as a resident DJ in both Noctis and Zincos bars where he walked both the Big Beat and Bristol's Trip-Hop movements with The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Thievery Corporation, Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky and beyond. Later on, between 2004 and 2008 he worked as a resident DJ in Catedral Cafe nightclub where he spinned everything from ragtime to rock, hip-hop and world music, but mostly house music. He also spinned in other academic events and nightclubs like Via Lactea, F7, Millennium and Malukiss. He currently lives in Lisbon, where he continues to pursue new sounds and beautiful harmonies, mostly by riding his never ending journey into the immense multiverse that is Electronic Music.
